Myeongdong Mania: Here’s Where To Shop In Seoul

Myeongdong is truly a shopping heaven for all: The district is famous for the abundant cosmetics shops, departmental stores, and more!

Myeongdong

Calling all beauty junkies!

Get that Song Hye Kyo glow with Korean makeup brands like Laneige, Innisfree, Nature Republic, Etude House, The Face Shop, Skinfood, Tony Moly, Holika Holika, MISSHA, Clio, and more. Most of these brands even have more than one outlet within Myeongdong itself, so if you find one branch too crowded or if your favourite product is out of stock, you can try your luck at the other outlets. The prices here are much cheaper than they are in Singapore, and the deal is further sweetened by the fact that the shops frequently hold sales!

A for Accessibility

Shopping in Myeongdong is easy and convenient due to its location. Myeongdong is located near Seoul station or Dongdaemun, and is directly connected to the subway at Myeongdong Station, Subway Line 4, Exit 6. Additionally, most of the staff can speak in Mandarin—they frequently encounter Chinese tourists—so if you are conversant in the tongue as well, purchasing (and asking for free samples) will be a breeze. You can even ask for free samples (like face masks, cotton wool, and more) without making a purchase; this is how they attract new customers!

An all-day affair

Think Myeongdong is only for the day? Think again. The roadside stores open in the late evening, lending the district a livelier feel. Make sure to try the local street foods like Fish Cake, Spicy Rice Cake, Egg Bread, and Korean Ice cream—they are simply delicious.

Myeongdong is boyfriend-friendly too!

For our fellow male counterparts, fret not! If endless cosmetics stores are not your thing, you can shop for some new kicks instead. There are numerous sneaker shops, selling the latest limited edition shoes that usually take a while to arrive in Singapore (if even at all). There are also lots of restaurants and unique eateries (cat, celebrity, and themed cafes) that you can drop by for a meal or just to take short break from your shopping spree. (See our guide for menswear shopping in Korea here!)

Psst…! Here’s an insider tip: If you’re lucky, you might even be able to bump into your favourite K-Pop idols! They have frequent appearances and meet-and-greet sessions there, so what are you waiting for? Hurry plan your trip down to Myeongdong!
